For these reasons, many municipalities (require seismic instrumentation or offer benefits such as reduced inspection time as part of a building occupancy resumption program.The main purpose of this policy is to gather information about building response to earthquake, to enable rapid evaluation of potential damage. By monitoring the ground movement only, nothing will be learnt about the building response during a seismic event.
