This method utilizes the furnace as the reactor and can be implemented through boiler modifications. The optimal reaction temperature is 800-950oC. Given that the furnace temperature and NOx distribution frequently vary across the convection section of the furnace, high ammonia slip can occur if there are too few control points for injection or if the ammonia injection is uneven across the entire boiler section. If the reducing agent is not fully reacted upon injection, the leaked NH3 will not only cause fly ash in the flue gas to deposit on the heating surfaces at the rear of the boiler but also react with SO3 to form ammonium salts, potentially leading to blockage and corrosion of the air preheater. To ensure that the denitrification reaction achieves the best reduction effect with the minimum amount of NH3 injection, appropriate injectors should be selected and arranged in layers to enable thorough mixing of NH3 with the flue gas, thereby achieving the denitrification objective. Working PrincipleThe SNCR (Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction) process utilizes the furnace as a reactor and is currently the primary denitrification technology adopted for retrofitting older power generation units. Typically, it achieves a NOx removal efficiency of 30% to 70%. The reducing agents commonly used are ammonia, aqueous ammonia, and urea. Owing to urea's superior distribution performance within the boiler compared to ammonia, as well as its status as a common chemical that is easy and safe to transport and store with readily available sources-while ammonia is classified as a hazardous chemical-urea is generally preferred as the reducing agent in SNCR applications. The Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) technology for NOx removal involves injecting a reducing agent containing NHx groups into the furnace, where it rapidly undergoes thermal decomposition into NH3. This NH3 then selectively reacts with NOx in the flue gas to produce harmless gases such as N2, CO2, and H2O.The SNCR denitrification process flow is as follows: Urea solid particles meeting the requirements are unloaded into a urea storage silo and then fed by metering into a solution preparation tank. There, the urea particles are dissolved in process water to form a urea solution, which is then pumped by a dosing and conveying pump to a solution storage tank. The urea solution in the storage tank is delivered via a booster pump and conveying pipelines to the furnace-front injection system, where it is sprayed through atomizing nozzles arranged around the boiler into the temperature zone of 900-1100oC within the furnace. The urea solution output from the storage tank can be mixed with process water to prepare urea solutions of varying concentrations to meet the requirements of different boiler loads. They are commonly cooled by air. To minimize the exposure of the spray guns to high-temperature flue gas, spray gun-type injectors and some wall-mounted nozzles are designed to be retractable. When the SNCR system needs to be shut down due to boiler startup, shutdown, seasonal operation, or other reasons, the injectors can be withdrawn from operation. The reactant is injected under pressure using specially designed nozzles to achieve optimal droplet size and distribution.
