Product Description Product DescriptionIntroductionHAYNES 25 alloy (UNS R30605) is a cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten alloy that combines excellent high-temperature strength with good resistance to oxidizing environments up to 1800°F (980°C) for prolonged exposures, and excellent resistance to sulfidation. It can be fabricated and formed by conventional techniques, and has been used for cast components. Other attractive features include excellent resistance to metal galling.CompositionThe following table shows the chemical composition of HAYNES 25.ElementContent (%)Cobalt, Co49.3Chromium, Cr20Tungsten, W15Nickel, Ni10Iron, Fe3Manganese, Mn1.5Silicon, Si1Carbon, C0.15Sulfur, S0.030Phosphorous, P0.040 Grade SpecificationGradeUNSDINENAMSASTMJISHaynes 25R30605 2.4964AMS 5537AMS 5759AMS 5796ASTM F90- Physical PropertiesThe physical properties of HAYNES 25 are outlined in the following table.PropertiesMetricImperialDensity9.13 g/cm30.33 lb/in3Melting point1382°C2520°F Characteristic Outstanding high temperature strengthOxidation resistant to 1800° FGalling resistantResistant to marine environments, acids and body fluids Corrosion ResistanceHAYNES 25 (L605) resistance to high temperature oxidation and carburization is good. The alloy, while not primarily intended for aqueous corrosion, is also resistant to corrosion by acids such as hydrochloric and acid, as well as being resistant to wet chlorine solutions.Density: 0.330 lbs./cubic inchTechnologyMachinabilityTraditional machining methods and tooling such as carbide tools or high-speed steel tools can be used for HAYNES(r) 25. However it is not suitable to use carbide tools while milling, drilling or tapping. In these cases, it is better to use only high-speed steel toolsFormingHAYNES(r) 25 can be formed by machining, cold working, welding, and forging.WeldingHAYNES(r) 25 is weldable using metal-arc welding, gas-tungsten arc welding, and shielded metal-arc welding. It is not suitable to use submerged-arc welding method. The surface to be welded should be clean and free from hydrocarbon products or grease.ForgingHAYNES(r) is basically forged in the annealed condition for optimum properties.Hot WorkingHot working of HAYNES(r) 25 can be performed if required.Cold WorkingHAYNES(r) 25 can be cold worked using conventional tooling.AnnealingSolution annealing of HAYNES(r) 25 can be performed in case of extreme cold working at 1204°C (2200°F) and then followed by air cooling.AgingAge-hardening heat treatment can be performed on HAYNES(r) 25 at 482°C (900°F) after solution annealing heat treatment is completed.HardeningHAYNES(r) 25 can be hardened by cold working only. If required an aging heat treatment can be performed to slightly improve hardness and strength.Applications Gas turbine engine combustion chambers and afterburnersHigh temperature ball bearings and bearing racesSpringsHeart valvesHAYNES(r) 25 can be used in gas turbine high temperature components and industrial furnace applications such as liners, muffles, and structural parts.
