Product DescriptionProduct DescriptionHigh Qulity TFM/PTFE White Metal Bearing Thrust pad Thrust Babbitt Bearing SegmentThrust pad (also called tilting pad or thrust bearing segment) is one of the core working components of a Thrust bearing (also known as Tilting Pad Bearing or Thrust Bearing Unit).Each thrust pad is mounted on a Thrust pad supporting ring or Thrust pad base, and its working surface is coated with a Babbitt layer (white metal) or modified PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) layer, providing excellent load-carrying, self-aligning, and anti-friction performance.SpecificationWorking Principle:During operation, the thrust shaft pushes against each thrust pad.Each pad is tiltable on its supporting base (Thrust pad base), allowing it to automatically adjust its angle to form a hydrodynamic oil film between the pad surface and the shaft collar. This oil film separates metal surfaces, reduces friction and wear, and provides self-centering capability — ensuring reliable lubrication and long service life even under fluctuating loads.Structure & Materials:Each Thrust pad consists of: ? Its core structural components include:1. Propulsion ShaftThis is part of the propulsion shafting. Its end is machined with a thrust collar (a large, flange-like rim). The propeller's thrust is transmitted precisely through this thrust collar.2. Thrust Shoes (or Thrust Pads)The core of the thrust bearing system lies in the thrust pads, which are arranged in pairs on both sides of the thrust collar.The forward-facing thrust pads (toward the ship's bow) support the propeller thrust generated when the vessel moves forward.The aft-facing thrust pads (toward the stern) absorb the reverse thrust produced during astern operation and also serve for axial positioning of the shafting system.Structural features:Each thrust pad's working surface (in contact with the thrust collar) is lined with Babbitt metal (white metal), an excellent bearing alloy known for its conformability and anti-seizure properties.More importantly, the back of each pad is not flat but supported by a tilting pivot—typically a spherical pivot or knife-edge support—which allows the pad to tilt slightly under load, forming a stable hydrodynamic oil film automatically.3.Thrust pad supporting ring(or Thrust pad base)A sturdy ring-shaped structure used to mount and support all the thrust shoes. It is precisely machined to ensure that all thrust shoes share the thrust load evenly.4. Bearing Housing (Casing)A sealed enclosure that houses all the components mentioned above and serves as a reservoir for lubricating oil. The bottom of the casing acts as an oil sump.4.Support StructureThis part is responsible for securely mounting the thrust bearing to the ship's foundation and allowing for slight axial movement due to thermal expansion and contraction.Support Pedestal (or Base)The bearing housing is mounted onto this support pedestal.Elastic Support (Key Component)Between the bearing housing and the support pedestal, there is a set of radial segmental pads or similar elastic elements. The functions of these elements are:· Transmit Radial Loads: To support the weight of the thrust shaft itself.· Allow for Thermal Expansion: When the shafting elongates due to temperature increase, the entire thrust bearing housing can move slightly axially along the pedestal together with the shafting, without generating harmful stresses.
