Product DescriptionMetal Tank Type AC Resonant Test SystemsDescriptionMetal tank type variable inductance HV AC resonant test systems are mainly used for factory testing (AC voltage and PD measurement) of medium and high voltage cables, high voltage capacitors, generators, and motors, especially for big capacitance load and long time duration test. The oil-cooled HV reactor is installed in a closed steel tank. The high voltage is fed outward through the steel tank via a HV bushing. The reactor can be fitted with additional voltage taps (bushings) to achieve largest testable capacitance of test objects at lower test voltages. They use the resonance between the capacitive test object and the inductive HV reactor of the test system to generate a continuous sinusoidal high voltage. The natural resonance frequency of the test circuit is matched to the feed-in mains frequency 50/60 Hz by setting the variable inductance of the HV reactor. As the HV reactor and test object are designed to form a series resonant circuit, the result will be an ideal sinusoidal testing voltage. And because the systems are designed to have high quality factor (Q), low input power is required (1/Q) which results in lower installation and operating costs.ApplicationMain applications:For routine testing of medium and high voltage cables up to 400 kV in accordance with IEC 60502 and IEC 60840.For routine testing of high voltage capacitors up to 60 kV in accordance with IEC 60871.For routine and inspection testing of generators and motors up to 60 kV in accordance with IEC 60034.FeaturesThe main advantage of resonant test systems is the low power demand, because only the losses in the test circuit must be replaced from the power supply. A resonant test system is remarkably lighter, cheaper and more economic than an AC transformer test system and should be applied if the test objects are capacitive. In case of a disruptive discharge the test object is not destroyed, because the system goes out of resonance. In addition, due to their precise sine wave, series resonant test systems are well suited for HVAC tests with PD and tan delta measurements. 1.
