In one path, the sample gas passes through the total hydrocarbons channel and finally enters the FID to produce the total hydrocarbons signal; in the other path, the sample gas passes through the catalytic chamber, where all components except CH4 are catalytically oxidized to H2O and CO2, and then enters the FID to generate the CH4 signal.
